How I do the research

Choosing a hosting provider isn’t complicated because the technology is hard. It’s complicated because plans, prices and features change constantly.

For this site I periodically review the main hosting providers that support WordPress installations, compare their offers, and update the recommendations when something clearly better appears.

The goal is simple:
identify hosting providers that are reliable, easy to use and reasonably priced for real users.

This page explains the criteria used in that research.

Hosting providers included in the research

The research focuses on well-known hosting providers that support WordPress installations.

This includes companies offering:

  • shared hosting with WordPress support
  • managed WordPress hosting
  • hosting plans suitable for small and medium websites

Providers are only considered if they:

  • have an established reputation
  • have been operating for several years
  • are widely used in the WordPress ecosystem

This avoids recommending providers that are new, unstable, or difficult to verify.

What I analyze

Each hosting provider is evaluated across multiple areas.

The goal is not to find the absolute fastest server on paper, but to identify hosting services that work well for real users over time.

The main aspects considered are:

  • performance
  • pricing structure
  • ease of use
  • customer support
  • reliability
  • reputation among users

Performance

Performance is important, especially for WordPress websites.

When reviewing hosting providers, I look at:

  • server infrastructure
  • caching systems available for WordPress
  • data center locations
  • typical performance reported by independent tests

The goal is to identify providers that offer consistently good performance, not just marketing claims.

However, performance alone is not the only factor.
A slightly faster server is not useful if the service is difficult to manage or unreliable.

Pricing structure

Pricing is analyzed beyond the initial promotional price.

Many hosting companies advertise very low first-year prices, but renewal costs can be significantly higher.

The research considers:

  • promotional price
  • renewal price
  • what features are included in the base plan
  • limits on websites, storage and traffic

The goal is to recommend providers that offer reasonable long-term value, not just the lowest advertised price.

Ease of use

Many people choosing hosting are installing WordPress for the first time.

Because of this, usability is an important factor.

During the research I evaluate:

  • the hosting dashboard and control panel
  • WordPress installation process
  • clarity of the interface
  • availability of guided setup tools

A hosting provider that is slightly cheaper but confusing for new users is usually not a good recommendation.

Customer support

Customer support becomes important when something goes wrong.

For this reason I look at:

  • availability of support (chat, tickets, phone)
  • response times reported by users
  • quality of documentation and tutorials

Hosting providers with consistent reports of poor support are typically excluded from recommendations.

Reliability and uptime

A hosting provider must be stable over time.

Research includes checking:

  • historical uptime data when available
  • large-scale outages reported in the past
  • infrastructure reliability

The goal is to recommend providers that have a stable track record, not just attractive plans.

User reputation

Marketing pages rarely show the full picture.

Because of this, I also review feedback from real users across multiple sources.

This includes:

  • independent review platforms
  • developer discussions
  • long-term user feedback

No single review source is considered definitive, but consistent patterns across many users are taken seriously.

Comparing plans

After evaluating providers, the next step is comparing their plans for specific use cases.

Instead of trying to rank dozens of hosting providers, the goal is to identify the most reasonable option for common scenarios, such as:

  • running a single WordPress website
  • managing multiple websites
  • using managed WordPress hosting

Each recommendation is based on how well a provider performs across all the factors described above, not just one metric.

Why the site recommends only a few options

There are many hosting providers on the market, and several of them are perfectly acceptable.

However, most users do not benefit from comparing ten similar options.

This site focuses on identifying a small number of reliable choices that work well for the most common situations.

When a clearly better option appears during future reviews, the recommendations are updated.
